A Tree Waves Hello

"A tree waves hello” is a Metaverse-based project, connecting remote forests with online communities in real time through satellite-enabled interaction. Advanced terrain sensors and processing scripts combine to give rise to an immersive experience. These sensors detect and translate tiny changes in a forest’s environmental conditions into real-time, moving image visualizations that can be experienced by remote and online communities.

In short, anyone in the world with a smartphone or other networked device can experience and interact with, in real-time, the effect of environmental factors such as wind, light, rain and cloud formation, upon the trees and terrain of a remote forest. Users have the option to interact either in AR or VR mode.

This artistic intervention establishes a rhizomatic connectivity between organic and inorganic compounds and forces, and between different milieus and registers. The project presents the prospect for communication and for seamless blending of forms between the man-made and the natural, through technological aids. It sets out to introduce an evolved relationship and create a social dialogue between remote forests and wider or online communities, through an investigation of new boundaries of perception and engagement with the natural environment.
